finperiti IQ AIFMD Annex IV reporting

Check your Annex IV report before the regulator does

A regulator’s portal tells you the file is well formed. It doesn’t tell you the numbers are right. finperiti IQ checks your AIFMD Annex IV report against the source data itself, whoever prepared it, so errors are caught before submission.

Why check before you file

A filing can be accepted and still be wrong

Annex IV reports go to each regulator in XML. The gateway checks the file is well formed, not that the judgements inside it are sound. That part is left to you.

What the regulator’s gateway checks

  • The file is valid XML in the required format
  • The expected fields are present
  • Values are the right type and length

What finperiti IQ adds

  • Checks the reported figures against the underlying source data
  • Catches errors that pass format validation
  • Compares the filing with your previous one to flag unexplained movements
  • Works on a filing whichever system or provider produced it

A fund manager can delegate the preparation of a report, but not the responsibility for it. An independent check before submission is part of showing that oversight.

Questions

Annex IV reporting, answered

What is AIFMD Annex IV reporting?

Annex IV is the standard supervisory report that alternative investment fund managers file with their regulators under the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD). It covers what each fund holds, how it is exposed, its liquidity, its investors and its leverage. It goes to regulators only, not to investors or the public.

Who has to file Annex IV?

Every manager managing or marketing alternative investment funds in the EU. EU managers file with their home regulator. Non-EU managers, such as a US adviser marketing a fund to investors in Ireland or Germany under national private placement, file with the regulator in each country where they market.

How often, and by when, must Annex IV be filed?

Frequency depends broadly on the manager’s assets under management: yearly for smaller managers, half-yearly in the middle band and quarterly above €1bn, with some carve-outs. Each report is due within one month of the period end, with 15 extra days for funds of funds.

If the regulator’s portal accepts my file, isn’t it correct?

Not necessarily. Gateway acceptance is a schema check: it confirms the file is well formed and in the right format. It does not check whether the figures are a true reflection of the fund. A report can pass every format check and still contain errors.

How do I check an Annex IV report before submission?

finperiti IQ checks the reported figures against the source data itself, catches errors that pass format validation, and can compare the filing with your previous one to flag movements nobody has explained. It works on a filing whichever system or provider produced it.

Does finperiti IQ only work with reports built in finperiti?

No. finperiti IQ validates against the underlying source data, so it can check a filing whoever prepared it, not just filings built on one template.

Does AIFMD II change Annex IV reporting from April 2027?

AIFMD II (Directive (EU) 2024/927) will bring a new, more detailed reporting template, and the new rules apply in law from 16 April 2027. But the template itself is still being written by ESMA, which expects the new reporting to go live in the first half of 2029 at the earliest. Until then, the current Annex IV template stays in force.

Does finperiti IQ support SEC Form PF?
